Academy Details

The Academy for Leadership Development provides valuable leadership training and enhancement of leadership skills. Programs are delivered by esteemed faculty of the Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri. Truman School faculty and facilitators have been chosen for their expertise and experience.

The Academy for Leadership Development is limited to 20 registrants to allow for the highest level of interaction among participants and with facilitators.

The program consists of three, two-day programs conducted at the newly renovated and state of the art MU Student Center (formerly Brady Commons) on the campus of the University of Missouri.

Faculty and Facilitators

Dr. Barton Wechsler - Dr. Wechsler is Dean of the Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri. Dr. Wechsler is a strategic community planning expert.

Dr. David Valentine - Dr. Valentine is the Senior Fellow in the Institute of Public Policy. Dr. Valentine worked for more than 25 years with the Division of Research, Missouri Senate.

Brian Dabson - Brian Dabson is founder of the RUPRI Rural Futures Lab and Director of the Institute of Public Policy.

Ms. Emily Johnson - Emily Johnson is a Senior Policy Analyst in the Institute of Public Policy, specializing in evaluation research.

Academy Information

Academy Curriculum and Instruction
The Academy curriculum is highly interactive, utilizing real-life case studies, experiential exercises and up-to-date reading and materials.

The Academy promotes the development of leadership skills and tools that allow participants to reflect on current beliefs and practices, share knowledge and experiences, and practice learned strategies and processes.

Certificate/CEUs
Participants must attend all sessions in their entirety to receive an Academy for Leadership Development Certificate of Completion from the University of Missouri. Continuing Education Units (CEUs)will be available for interested participants for an additional fee of $15.00.

Program Cost and Meals
The cost for Academy for Leadership Development includes three, two-day programs, all instruction materials, continental breakfast served every morning, lunch at a variety of Columbia's excellent restaurants, including local favorites. The final Academy lunch and certificate presentation will be hosted at the exclusive University Club at the Reynolds Alumni Center on the campus of the University of Missouri.
