Sara Gable, IPP Director, attended the annual Directors’ Meeting of the Consortium of University Public Service Organizations (CUPSO), October 19-20, 2023, in Washington DC. The agenda included a panel presentation on “Emerging Issues and Challenges for Local Governments” with James Brooks (National League of Cities), Mark Ritacco (National Association of Counties), and Jeanette Green (Loudon County, VA) and numerous opportunities for attendees to share updates, problem solve, and discuss next year’s CUPSO conference at U Mass Amherst (April 3 – 5, 2024). The panel discussion highlighted current challenges faced by county and local governments with a particular emphasis on hiring and retaining the next generation of public servants.
