Youth Community Coalition, Columbia Housing Authority through a grant provided by the U.S. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
About the Project
IPP was contracted by the Youth Community Coalition to serve as the external evaluators for their 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant which was awarded in August 2011. The grant is a multi-year project focusing on enhanced afterschool programming for students in three established afterschool programs in Columbia. The 21st Century grant provides additional resources and curriculum, teachers, tutors, counselors and facilitators to the Boys and Girls Club, Fun City, the Moving Ahead Program, and Title 1 Preschool.
These after school programs will utilize the funding to improve the academic achievement of students in their programs.
IPP will use data collected through an online database, parent and teacher surveys, and individual level data supplied by the Columbia Public School District to determine student improvements in:
- Academic performance
- MAP tests
- Reading and writing assessments
- School attendance
- Discipline and misconduct
IPP will compare student achievement and behavior to previous year’s data and to a comparison group of students who did not receive enhanced afterschool programming. IPP is excited to work with the Youth Community Coalition on another project benefiting children and youth in Columbia.
